GM Recalls Chevrolet, Equinox EV, and Cadillac Optiq Models Over a Tire Issue
In October 2025, General Motors recalled two SUV models due to the issue in tire. As per the submitted document to NHTSA (the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), a total of 22,914 vehicles have been recalled, which covers Cadillac Otpiq and Chevrolet Equinox EV models from 2025 and 2026.
As per GM, the issue is caused by the use of a non-standard rubber compound in continental crosscontat 275/40R-21 tires. All the affected tires have DOT code 4024, and through this, it is easy to identify the defective pieces. As per the complaint register by the owner, they experience unusual tread wear or bulging, tire noise, and vibration while driving. These issues can cause major incidents. Although GM is not aware of any incident or injuries till now, and their timely recall of the products for safety reasons ensure the further issues will not arise. The models which used the tire manufactured during the week of October 2024 are involved in the recall process.

Chronology:
An investigation was conducted between September 2 and 30, 2025, where the team conducted a chemical analysis and found that the subject tires were manufactured with an inadequate sulfur level in the tread base compound, which is preventing proper adhesion. It make rubber of the tire weak, soft, and sticky, which is unable to make a proper shape, have lack of durability, is temperature sensitive, and is unsafe. This led to a decision, where GM’s Safety Field Action Decision authority (SFADA) decided to conduct a safety recall.

All the owner has been notified related to the recall, and dealers started to inspect all four tires of the affected vehicles. If any vehicle is identified as per DOT code, then the tire will be replaced free of charge.
