Ford Recalls More Than 556,000 Vehicles

· Sage Law Group, LLP

In the latest Ford recall, more than 556,000 cars of 2016 to 2017 Explorer Vehicles have been affected. All these vehicles have been manufactured in the Chicago Assembly Plant. In all the affected vehicles, the customer experiences the detachment (partially or fully) of the B-pillar trim appliqué on the driver’s as well as the passenger’s doors.

Ford Recalls More Than 556,000 Vehicles

More than 1450 warranty claims have been registered between December 2015 to February 2025 (as per production date) related to b-pillar appliques.

Before this, Ford published a technical service bulletin in July 2019 indicating the process to repair loose drive-side pillar trim, which may be loose because of a lack of adhesion. However, this was not enough, and in March 2025, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shared a questionnaire with the customers related to Ford’s customer complaints. This led to an investigation by the company.

Between April to May, CCRG and Ford’s body exterior team investigated photos and scrap yard analysis. This brings out the fact that the lack of adhesion during installation is contributing to this issue. This increases the risk of detachment of the B-pillar completely from the driver’s side. This can be not only risky for the driver but also for the other vehicles on the road. Till now, no case has been registered related to the accident or injuries.

Ford’s field review committee approved the field action on 16th May 2025, resulting in the recall of affected models. On 27th May, all the dealers were notified related to the process. Owner’s notification letters have been mailed to all the vehicle owners on June 9, 2025.

The process of resolving the issue is under development, but the interim letter has been mailed to the owners, and a second notice will be sent once the complete remedy has been finalised.

All the owners will be notified related to the remedies soon; till then, you can contact the Ford customer service number or visit the NHTSA official website for updates.

This is not their first recall; other recalls include-

6781 vehicles are equipped with 1.5L and 2.0L MPC engines because the engine block heater overheats the vehicle while being parked and can increase the risk of fire. The vehicles in the recall are Lincoln Nautilus 2024-2025, Escape 2023-2025, Lincoln Corsair 2025, Maverick 2025, and Bronco Sport 2025. Replacement of the engine block heater element as suggested, and it will be done at no cost of charge. Owners are suggested to check their mail, as the company sent the mail on June 6th.

30,676 Nautilus 2024 model because of the multimedia module software, which is causing the panoramic and centre display to reboot, resulting in a blank display. The software will be updated by the dealers for free of charge, and all the owners will be notified by June 16 of the process.

63,898 Maverick 2025 model due to the issues with the airbag indicator light on the dashboard. Airbag indication light retaining clips will be installed by the dealers for free. Owners must have received the mail on Jun 9.

1797 vehicles equipped with 2.5L HEV or PHEV engines, and this includes model Escape 2020-2023, Maverick 2022-2023, and Corsair 2021-2023. Due to engine failure, engine oil and fuel vapor have been released from the compartment near the hot engine and exhaust component. Owners are suggested to park vehicles away from noisy areas. Control module software will be updated for free by the company, and for that, an owner notification letter is proposed to be mailed by June 23rd.
