As per the report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning BEV, 2025-2026 Maverick, and 2024-2026 Mustang Mach E have been recalled. This potentially covers 272,645 vehicles, with an estimated percentage with 1% defect. There are a total of 80,468 Maverick, 88,064 Mustang Mach-E, and 104,113 Lightning BEV. This makes them the highest amongst US automakers who has recalled their vehicles in 2025.
Ford Recalls 272,000 Lightning, Mach-Es, and Mavericks Over a Software Issue
The news sparked days later when Ford announced the end of production of the current F-150 Lightning at Dearborn, MI. The company promised the new models as the revolutionary model of the original EV. There is a software issue in the integrated park module where the lock may fail while in the park position or when the drive shifts into park. This can increase the risk of a crash, because this loss of parking function can lead vehicles to roll away.
Till now, they have received 22 Mach-E, 16 F-150 Lightning, and 4 Maverick warranty claims related to the concerns. The only good thing is that there are no reports of accidents or injuries, which is a kind of relief for the automaker.
Under their remedy program, Ford has decided to update the Secondary On Board Diagnostic Module C (SOBDMC) software. They will anticipate an over-the-air deployment of the software update in the affected vehicles. But the consumers can also take their vehicle to the authorised dealers to complete the software update. And all these processes will be done for free.
Ford has planned to issue a notification on Feb 2, 2026, to the owners of the vehicles via mail.
