Ford Fuel Injector Recall 2025: Over 694,000 Vehicles Affected by Fire Risk
· Sage Law Group, LLP
August 2025
Ford Motor Company has made its recall affecting approximately 694,271 vehicles in the United States due to a serious fire hazard linked to faulty fuel injectors. The root cause identified in the recall is cracked fuel injectors. The recall also involved the 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Ford Escape models equipped with the 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine.
Ford Fuel Injector Recall 2025: Due To Fire Risk, Over 694,000 Vehicles
When the cracked fuel injectors crack and they leak fuel into the engine compartment, it can ignite while being in contact with hot engine components, posing an under-hood fire risk. Owners may detect a fuel smell, observe smoke, or see flames emanating from the engine. In some cases, dashboard warning lights may also illuminate to indicate a problem. Currently, Ford has reported eight incidents of underhood fires related to this defect, but no injuries have been confirmed yet.
This recall has followed earlier campaigns that have promoted the use of software updates to manage the issue. However, as per the investigations conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it was found that software fixes were not sufficient to address the issue alone. For this, Ford brought an interim measure, which enables a free software update to detect leaking injectors and reduce engine performance to lower fire risk. A permanent repair involving injector replacement is currently being developed.
Owners are expected to receive their notices of recalls starting from August 2025, and they are advised to schedule their free software update timely manner at authorised Ford dealerships as soon as possible. All vehicle owners can verify the status of their recalls online using the NHTSA website or by contacting Ford customer service.
Ford estimates this recall will cost the company approximately $570 million and has already taken a $750 million charge in the second quarter of 2025. The recall announcement sent Ford shares down by 3% as investors reacted to growing concerns about warranty costs and an unprecedented number of recalls in 2025, with Ford already surpassing 88 safety recalls this year. The company continues efforts to enhance vehicle safety and quality assurance in response to increased scrutiny from regulators and consumers.
