According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Mercedes-Benz was ordered to recall 116,020 SUVs of different models. This also includes the vehicles manufactured by Mercedes-AMG and Maybach. The reason behind this recall is to resolve the issue in the ground system, which is located in the front passenger seat. No cases of injuries, crashes, or fires have been reported related to the issue, which gives some relaxation to the company.
This recall encompasses a broad range of models, including Mercedes-MAG GLE 53, GLE63, and GLS63 of the 2021- 2024 model. Moreover, 2020-2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 model, GLE450 2020-2024, GLE580 2020-2023, and GLS450 and GLS580 of 2019-2023 and 2020-2023 models respectively. Lastly, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 2021-2023 model is also included. In total, 116020 vehicles were covered by the recall. This signalled the seriousness of luxury vehicles and their potential and hazardous risks.
According to NHTSA documents, during the production of passenger seats, the model may become loose, which could lead to overheating and fire. Even the company is 100 percent sure that the issues have appeared because of the loose connection. Their recalled documentation even indicated that the drivers might be unable to detect the issue unless the loose connection changed the power supply to 48-volt. And this heat started to display on the instrument cluster as a warning message.
However, the lack of urgency detection also underscores the urgency of this recall. Mercedes-Benz is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of customers. They mentioned that all the recalled vehicles are under process and inspected carefully. They tighten the ground connection properly, and this is free of charge. All the dealers of the vehicles were notified of the recall on March 22nd, while the owners got the notification on May 14th.
