Volkswagen Recalls Some Tiguan SUVs Over Steering Defect

· Sage Law Group, LLP

Some of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV models have already been called back to the dealerships after the issue came to light. According to VW’s official statement, they don’t have any reports of injuries or accidents due to the issue. But it is advised to take this recall seriously, as this is related to structural and engine problems.

Volkswagen Tiguan Recall 2025 Notice Due To Steering Issue

During the manufacturing process, the rear tie bolt may not have been tightened properly. Right now, a total of 15 vehicles have been recalled in the United States, and all these are manufactured between April 17th and May 28th, 2025.

The previous model managed to increase its sales by 23.8%, but this model comes with challenges and issues with structural and engine problems. Although it offers a strong feature with advanced technology, owners are already reporting the issue.

Steering Wheel Issue

Volkswagen recalled some of the 2025 Tiguan SUV models in August 2025 because of a loose tie rod bolt on the rear axle assembly, which may result in loss of vehicle control. During the manufacturing at the Mexican plant in Puebla, the flaw was linked to incorrect tightening. Even though a few vehicles were impacted, which includes 15 in the U.S. and 5 in Canada, Volkswagen activated a safety recall and provided free repairs. Owners were told to inspect their VINs and return to dealerships for bolt replacements to avoid steering failure.

The issue came into light on Jun 28 when Volkswagen received a report related to the damage to the rear axle from another market. After receiving the report, the brand conducted an investigation, which revealed that the bolt used for the rear tie rod may lose or fracture over time, which potentially increases the chances of major risks.

The dealer will replace the affected tie rod bolt for free, and a notification letter will be mailed to the owners by 10th October 2025. The owner can contact VW customer services number at 800-893-5298 (42E7 Volkswagen recall number) and can visit the NHTSA official website to get updates.

Other Issues:

  1. Structural

Not only steering defect issue, but customers also reportedly complain about the exploding sunroof. This is happening when the sunroof gets hot, and due to the pressure, it explodes. A part of the vehicle broke, which is causing an issue in the engine and preventing it from cooling down. This not only becomes an issue for the driver, but can also cause potential issues for the other drivers on the road. This mainly occurs because of the thermal stress from rapid temperature changes, manufacturing defects, and poor frame support or pressure buildup at high altitudes.

  1. Engine

The engine is not working properly, as the infotainment system is not working properly, causing sensor issues and providing false warnings in the system. Drivers relying on the sensor system, and if it does not work as it should be then they can face significant issues in operating the vehicle.

This is causing sensor miscommunication, false warning lights, and erratic engine behaviour or limp mode activation. These are software glitches, and for that, VM issues a technical service bulletin (TSB) addressing faulty coding in the keyless start system, software updates, and engine oil consumption checks.
