Stellantis Recall 92,000 US Vehicles Due to Drive Power Issue

As per Stellantis filed document to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Jeep Cherokee SUV is showing issues related to the loss of drive power. This plug-in vehicle has malfunction issues in the onboard software, which is increasing the risk of a crash or incident.

As per the company’s statement, while doing BPCM resets, the Hybrid Control Processor (HCP) interprets the wrong signal from BPCM, and this is leading to a loss of drive power. Also, the microprocessor of the model might become overloaded, leading to a reset of the module.

The vehicles manufactured between 23rd July 2021 and 29th August 2025 are installed with defective software. All the suspected vehicles will be maintained at the plant control after determining their records. If the vehicle builds after the suspected period and does not have HCP, it will not be included in this recall. This covers 91,787 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles in the U.S. market.

Chronology:

  1. On 1st May 2025, Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) received a preliminary information request from NHTSA, which they responded to on 23rd May.
  2. An investigation was conducted on Jun 24th, 2025, related to a loss of propulsion complaint in some of the Jeeps, which led to the conclusion that there are potential failure modes which is resulting in the issue.
  3. After 110 filed reports, 320 service records, and 96 customer assistance records, the company issued a notice to recall the vehicles, as the defect can affect the safety and security of the drivers and others.
