More Than 171K Mazda Has Been Recalled

· Sage Law Group, LLP

Airbags are lifesavers, but if the vehicle has an issue related to them, it becomes a questionable point. This is what is happening with Mazda.

Impacted models: 2024-2025 Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchbacks and CX-30 SUVs

Number of impacted vehicles: 171,412

Recall number: 7525E

NHTSA recall number: 25V336000

More Than 171K Mazda Have Been Recalled

On behalf of Mazda Motor Corporation, MNAO (Mazda North American Operations) has filed a notification with NHTSA for some of the 2024- 2025 models.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 2024 and 2025 Mazda models have been recalled, which is equivalent to 171,412. This covers 51,857 Mazda3 sedans and hatchbacks and 119,555 CX-30 models.

In the beginning, Mazda determined this as a non-safety issue, as the ignition being discharged is related to the customer usage, “as per the company”. But this caused the complete depletion of the engine, and the vehicle is unable to start. Once the engine is recharged, the airbag warning light illuminates.

In February 2025, they found out about the issue in their underdevelopment product, which led to a global investigation between March to May 2025. Till now, the company is not aware of any injuries or fatalities concerning the issue. Also, no field report has been received in the US and its territories as of this date. However, they have received 15 incident reports of airbag sensors being replaced, which were further investigated by the NHTSA’s Office of Defects.

Risk:

According to NHTSA, the problem can only happen when the ignition has been left “ON” for more than 2 hours without running the engine. Due to the low battery condition, the Sophisticated Airbag Sensor (SAS) unit set an error code that deactivated the airbags even after the battery had been recharged or replaced. The inability to deploy airbags increases the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash. If the airbags are deactivated, then the warning light will start popping up in the gauge cluster behind the steering wheel.

Remedy:

Mazda decided to reprogramme the airbag sensor units, or they will replace them with the new ones at no cost if necessary. The dealers and automakers have been notified about the recall process. Whilst owners can be expected to receive a notification letter by the end of July.

Mazda is not offering any sort of reimbursement program, because all the affected vehicles are under full warranty coverage. But if someone has already attempted to resolve the issue on their own, Mazda recommends visiting the nearby authorized dealer to ensure that the solution is correctly applied or not.
