BMW Recalls 552 Cars (3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 8 Series, X3, X4, X5, X6 and Z4)

March 15, 2024

BMW Company has declared a recall notice for 552 Cars, including 3 Series, 5 Series, 4 Series, 8 Series, X3, X4, X5, X6, and Z4. These vehicles have problems with automatic transmissions, where oil may leak and cause gear seizing, posing safety risks on the road. This recall notice has been issued for ten products involving one Toyota model – the GR Supra.

BMW informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the incorrect welding of two halves of the transmission control unit managed by a supplier. As a result, the oil may leak into the unit and get in contact with electrical components.

According to BMW regulators in affected vehicles, this fault in the car might cause the seizure of transmission gears. The company emphasized the significance of promptly handling the problem, stating that a high-speed transmission seizure could compromise the crash risk in vehicles and vehicle handling and control.

As per reports of the NHTSA, if the function and operation of the transmission were impacted, this could cause a seizure of the transmission gears.”

No further news has been identified concerning the issues in BMW associated with mishappening or incidents. It ensures that faults in cars have already been managed by the transmission supplier before falling into any risks.

As required, BMW’s dealer will solve the issue by replacing the overall transmission mechatronics module and automatic transmission fluid. They would also fix the problems mentioned in the recall notice without charges. While the recall notice is related to safety defects, manufacturers try to rectify the problem of all impacted owners in this situation.
