BMW Recall Covers X5 and X7 Sports Utility Vehicles For Potential Fire Risk
· Sage Law Group, LLP
In the first half of 2025, BMW sold a total of 178,499 vehicles, of which 33,588 were X5s and 14,707 X7s accounted for. But now their recall somehow created a hurdle in selling more vehicles of these models.
BMW Recall X5 and X7 SUVs Over Potential Fire Risk
Munich-based automaker is in the recall race, and recently, its models for 2026 started to show defects. Vehicles manufactured between 5th and 20th August 2025 at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg cover a total of 1,406 suspected vehicles.
As per the documents filed with US regulators, models X5 and X7 are covered in the recall. Out of that, 1,703 are from the X5 (has plug-in hybrid option) line, and the remaining 33 are of the X7 (does not have plug-in hybrid option) model.
The windshield of the sport utility car is not properly sealed, and this allows water to enter the cabinet. But the main issue is that if the water or the moisture ever comes in contact with sensitive electrical components, it can lead to initial issues like malfunctioning of the door or headlight. But it can also lead to sparks, short circuits, or some serious issues like a thermal event (fire) with the ignition off.
BMW has not reported any injuries or accidents related to the defects. The issue was detected during internal quality checks and post-production inspections at its Spartanburg, South Carolina, Plant. Also, the issue came into light when the engineers noticed the leakage of water through the right A-pillar- a vertical section between the front passenger seat and the windshield.
BMW Response:
The company has instructed all its US dealers to investigate and inspect the windshield seal of affected cars. If they found the issue, rework will be done. Also, if the electrical circuit box shows signs of water or moisture, then all the parts will be replaced for free.
By October 17, 2025, owners will get mail related to the process that the company decided. Till then, they advised owners to check if their vehicle is included in the recall or not through the 17-character VIN (vehicle identification number) or visit the BMW consumer website. Although the German manufacturer assembled X5 and X7 in the US market, their VINs start with 5.
