60,000 Audi, VW EVs Recalled for Instrument Panel Issues

· Sage Law Group, LLP

According to Volkswagen, a display malfunction could cause the N (neutral) gear indicator to fail, increasing the risk of a rollaway accident.

The latest recall focuses on Volkswagen’s luxury Audi brand and their electric vehicle (EV) lineup.

Why Audi, VW EVs Recalled ?

The Volkswagen Group of America has recalled nearly 61,000 electric vehicles, including ID.4 SUVs and Audi e-tron models, where the gearshift indicator may not properly display the neutral position.

If the parking brake is not engaged, this could raise the risk of the vehicle rolling away, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall was issued after discovering software issues that prevented the gear position from displaying correctly.

The problem first came to light in August, after five cases were reported outside the U.S.

The NHTSA has emphasized the importance of addressing these safety concerns promptly to prevent potential accidents.

Volkswagen is actively working to notify all affected vehicle owners about the issue. In the meantime, they have updated the brake control unit software to correct the problem at no cost to vehicle owners.

Official owner notifications will begin in April 2025.
